When it comes to caregiving, most boomers need help figuring out the minutiae of Medicare and the hurdles of housing.

One group in Marin County, Calif., is offering up their expertise at an innovative consultation clinic, with 10 experts on hand to answer caregivers' questions about healthcare, long-term care insurance, psychology, legal issues, estate planning and more. The clinic will take place September 24 and costs $30 to attend. (If you're in Northern California, see details here.)

At the last clinic in February, overwhelmed caregivers  - and adults simply interested in planning ahead to better protect their families and assets - heard about a wide-range of aging issues through presentations and one-on-one consultations.

The experts who volunteer their time represent a diverse group from profit and non-profit organizations, including Genworth Financial, Hospice by the Bay and Senior Access Adult Day Services. Attendees can engage in private, 20-minute consults with three or more of these professionals, depending on the total number of attendees.

The clinic was started by Carolyn Rosenblatt, who is a nurse, an attorney and a partner with her husband, psychologist Mikol Davis, in Marin Senior Care & Services, a San Rafael, Calif.-based business offering advice on caregiving. She based the idea on legal clinics where people who have problems can get a brief consultation with a lawyer.

"It gives caregivers a shot in the arm to get ahold of information they didn't even know about," said Tina Cheplick, a registered nurse with Care Solutions for Elders, who is one of the experts who'll be on hand. "It's innovative. It's totally out of the box. It's personal."
