Fieger, 57, got his first break while still in high school when Rolling Stones producer Jimmy Miller agreed to listen to his band, Sky, in the basement of Fieger's home in Oak Park, Mich. The audition led to a two-album deal and a trip to England where the band recorded two albums in Mick Jagger's home studio.

After leaving high school, the band moved to Los Angeles and Sky broke up in 1973. He formed The Knack in 1977 with Burton Avarre, Perscott Niles and Bruce Gary, later signing on with Capital Records.

Its first album, Get the Knack, became the top-selling album worldwide in 1979, and the band continued playing for three decades.
